Is it normal for software to stop working?

No, it’s not normal at all for software to stop working. Even when software becomes end of life it will continue operating as it did before it was no longer supported, as long as nothing else changes. (Like the hardware being updated.)

For example, you could take a very early computer from the 1980’s and the software should still work as designed. (Of course, as long as the hardware still works.)

When software is no longer supported it means there are no longer bug fixes, or compatibility fixes for hardware changes.
